Cost per Cup Calculator
Specialty beans look expensive per kilo and cheap per gram. Cost per cup is dose in kilograms times price, inflated by waste (dosed-and-dumped, retamps, the last ugly puck), plus extras. Brew ratio changes flavour; this page only cares what left the bag.

Recommended gear
0.1 g coffee scale
Dose is the cost lever. 18 g espresso versus 15 g V60 is visible here immediately.
Typical range: $20–$80
Airtight coffee canister
Stale beans get thrown out. That is 100% waste, not 5%. Seal the bag.
Typical range: $20–$50
Hario V60 dripper
Paper extras are pennies. The dripper is the cheap way to keep dose at 15 g instead of café 18 g doubles.
Typical range: $10–$40
Calculation method
Bean cost is dose in kilograms times price per kilogram, then multiplied by (1 + waste/100). Total is that plus extras. 15 g at $28/kg with 5% waste is about $0.441 of coffee plus $0.05 extras. Currency formatting follows the site locale; type prices in that currency.
Exact formula
beanCost = (doseG / 1000) × beanPricePerKg × (1 + wastePercent / 100). totalCost = beanCost + extrasPerCup. Limits: Electricity, machine depreciation and barista time omitted; waste is a percent of dose, not a café P&L.

Feed totalCost into the home-versus-café tool as homeCostPerDrink. Do not compare a $0.44 V60 to a $5 latte without adding milk extras.
Frequently asked questions
Green price or roasted?
Use what you drink. If you roast, divide green invoice by roasted yield (weight-loss tool) to get an effective roasted $/kg.
Espresso waste is higher?
Yes if you dial in every new bag. Put 15–25% waste on those days, not on a settled recipe.
Why three decimal places?
Cups are cheap; rounding to $0.44 versus $0.441 matters when you scale a batch or a year.
