Calculation method
Estimated microns are the from-grinder clicks times that model’s microns per click. Target clicks divide those microns by the destination grinder’s pitch. Espresso-likely is 200–400 µm; filter-likely is 500–900 µm. The 400–500 µm gap is typical moka/AeroPress — neither flag on purpose. Dark espresso blends often want finer than a light filter roast at the ‘same’ microns.
Exact formula
microns = fromClicks × μm/click_from. targetClicks = microns / μm/click_to. Espresso likely if 200–400 µm; filter likely if 500–900 µm; 400–500 µm is moka/AeroPress territory (neither flag). Limits: Burr geometry, zero-point and particle distribution omitted; clicks are relative, not a lab D50.

Zero point matters
If you count from first chirp and the table counts from locked burrs, you will be several clicks off. Read the grinder note, then chase flavour.
Distribution is not D50
Two grinders can share a mean size and still make different espresso because of fines. Converter first, WDT and a test shot second.
Frequently asked questions
My Eureka is stepless. What is a click?
The table uses a small equivalent step (µm per mark). Land near the number, then trim while you watch shot time. Do not treat 0.1 tick as gospel.
Why is espresso ‘yes’ and filter ‘yes’?
They should not both be yes. Espresso is 200–400 µm, filter 500–900 µm. Around 450 µm both stay no — that is moka/AeroPress territory. Taste, do not worship the flag.
Same clicks after a burr swap?
No. Recalibrate from lock, then convert again. Worn burrs also drift — that is why the lifespan tool exists.
